The Grand Lake Farmer's Market is intoxicatingly lively -- so many people, vendors, dogs, so much music, food, activity. I wonder if this is kinda how people felt about medieval fairs. We had some pretty tasty Nepalese wraps, then wandered to a bookstore and then to the farmer's market for food for tonight, then home.
My mom loves Flora in Oakland, so we come here every time she visits. I had the poached ahi tuna with a tomato-pepper fondue -- tasty -- and a gin cocktail with rhubarb. Quite delicious.
My parents are in town! We took them out to the Burma Superstar in Alameda, home to some very tasty dishes and a ginger-flavored beer special, and then to frozen yogurt and to hang out with the cats at our place. It was great to see them again and I'm looking forward to the rest of the visit.
Eclipse(r) is a _way_ better movie than expected. But seriously, people? Jacob's so the right choice. (Though Edward's drink at the Kabuki -- dubonnet, sprite, creme de casis -- was pretty tasty I do admit.)
Japanese dinner at Mifune with Tim, Sarah, and Alex before seeing Eclipse at the Sundance Kabuki theater. That egg by my dish? It was raw. It made for a weird texture.
Our Ghirardelli cafe mocha took more or less the whole San Francisco fireworks show to make. Fortunately, going there got us very close to the launch point for what turned out to be a fairly impressive show, and we took turns watching outside while someone waited for our food. After that, the four of us walked back to Embarcadero -- it was a nice night.
Pizza at the mall's unusually good food court with Alex and JT before seeing The Last Airbender!
Delicious brisket at Moishe's Pippic with @HaroldLiss and @Raphomet and Daniela. Glad I got to go one last time! Highly recommended.
@lavalight made biscuits and gravy for breakfast -- delicious family recipe! Turns out gravy goes really well with tomatoes too. Then on to a day of cleaning and a bit of programming.
A resplendent salmon lunch made by my husband while I cleaned off the deck. Beautiful California produce on a beautiful California summer day is wonderful.
Dinner with @wellhong and @lavalight, who hadn't seen each other in a while and had a lot of fun over Ethiopian food.
A beautiful summer Saturday evening after a very productive day packing and cleaning. We grilled BBQ chicken wings and ate on the balcony with a candle and a bottle of wine. I'll miss Oakland in the summertime.
At today's @ContextOptional Fridays@5, @kfleisher gave a great talk about the world of PR over pizza, beer, and wings. Very cool!
Shan Dong: hands down the best Chinese food in Oakland -- nay, the Bay Area -- and staffed with awesome people willing to seat us five minutes before close and let us eat while they cleaned up. Our meal was delicious, overabundant, and insanely affordable. I love that place.
Lots of beer with @wellhong and @lavalight and friends and spouses at The Trappist. Downtown Oakland FTW!
Bi-Rite ice cream (salted caramel and brown sugar with Ginger caramel): perfect on a hot day. Afterward, we walked around the Castro finding Thom a souvenier, then headed back to his place for some games and dinner.
The most beautiful day I could imagine to lie in the park with Tim, Thom, Sarah, Manny, Alex, Bi-Rite sandwiches, and mimosas. Thom chose a good last day.
A quick pork bun from Cam Huong (flatter and wider than usual; Alex's was undercooked) n the way into San Francisco to help Tom move. So warm and bright!
